Jallah grew up in Liberia at one of the toughest times. Facing a civil war education was paused at times. Then when school began again families that were poor could not afford to go to school. Jallah sold donuts and water on the streets of Liberia to try and raise enough funds. Sometimes he did, other times it wasn’t enough. Jallah was lucky enough to have a donor pay for his tuition so he could go to school. Jallah wanted to pay it forward and paid for one child’s education. Then another and another, until it became a mission.
YesLiberia’s vision is to create meaningful change to the education system in Liberia with a goal to one day not be needed. YesLiberia not only pays for tuition and gets kids to school safely, but they also provide leadership development to their students to mold them into the leaders of tomorrow. With the intent for them to pay it forward and fix the school system.
YesLiberia has learned and grown over the last 15 years. Starting off as a small group of people coming together to raise tuition from their own pockets has turned into a small nonprofit that has created several channels of raising funds from grant writing, campaigning on college campuses, and referral-based donations. YesLiberia has also added to their services from just paying tuition to leadership development, to volunteer projects, and now to providing safe transport to school.

YesLiberia’s approach is different because it’s about ‘paying it forward.’ It is like the proverb feed a man a fish he eats for the day, teach him to fish he eats for life. We believe that we should pay for a child’s tuition, but it should not come without a cost. That cost is servant leadership.
Yes, we’re international about our partnerships– ensuring all partnerships are mutually beneficial, valued-driven, reduces cost, and established to create more impact. We’ve partnered with the YMCA of Liberia, the Rotary Club of Sinkor, the Liberian Youth Orchestra, Write Liberia, PeaceJam Liberia, Educate the Future (ETF), and we are currently working on other key partnerships with global and local partners.
Yes, not only do we work in partnership with other organizations, we are open to partnering or collaborating with organizations within Liberia and elsewhere. In the past, we’ve partnered with educational organizations in Liberia, churches in the USA, 12+ rotary clubs in the USA, the UK, and Liberia, and various student organizations across multiple colleges in the USA. We are intentional about the partners we seek or welcome to ensure mutual benefits, to prevent inappropriate practices, and more importantly create more impact while offsetting cost.
We take on as little administrative costs as possible. Most of the work that needs resources is completed by volunteers all around the globe. And any administrative costs that we do incur are covered by board members to help us be mindful of the expenses. If costs start to climb, we innovate, quickly finding new ways to get the important work done.
The number one death for children over the age of five in Africa is road accidents. We uncovered that one of the most dangerous things a child can do in Liberia was to go to school. We want kids to go to school—because we know that will make them better leaders—but we do not want them to be in danger of doing it. A school bus ensures that we can get kids to school safer. Additionally, the bus program serves as a classroom on wheels for students through our educational trips that focuses on leadership and career aspirations. The bus is also available for charter services to other smaller NGOs to reduce their cost and simultaneously generate funds to maintain the bus and its staff.
Our participants are generally the students we serve, but our volunteers and parents are also key participants of the program. Students in grades 9th through 12th are expected to volunteer in their communities, for their places of worship, or for their schools, and sometimes they do volunteer for YesLiberia. For instance, a few students and parents volunteered to paint our office and find donated desks and chairs for the space. Parents also attend all orientations to understand the value of the program and services we provide in order to keep reminding their children to stay focused on education. And our volunteers play key roles by encouraging other volunteers to join us, taking on specific tasks like Graphic Design, App Development, UX/UI Designs, Grant Writing, Fundraising, and Video Editing/Recording, LIVE interviews on Social Media, etc.
We do not just provide children with a free education. There are expectations that they will pay this act of kindness back to the community. Students and parents of YesLiberia give back by providing community service. We also provide children with the tools they need to feel empowered by providing them with leadership development workshops.
Besides in-class learning activities at their respective schools, students benefiting from our programs are given various opportunities to learn. They learn from our orientation sessions twice a year and our leadership program about service, volunteering, appreciation, peer pressure, self esteem, dreams, dedication, and sense of responsibilities. Additionally, through.our Radical Generosity Bus programs, students also learn from various professionals through our “on-the-bus” programming, where presenters from various professions provide mini-presentations on various topics each week. We use the GivingTuesday approach to ensure each student is learning something about generosity every tuesday.
At this time, no. However, we hope our upcoming App will help provide similar assistance for students in other countries through our approved partners.
Yes, we are. However, in the USA, a 501c3 registration is a one time process with the IRS , with no expiration date. On the other hand, in Liberia NGO registration is required at four governmental agencies, each with different expiration timeframes. YesLiberia has to do this to remain legally binding in the country.

100% goes directly to the program, if the donor agrees to cover the transaction cost from paypal or the online processing platform. YesLiberia depends on its board members to cover overhead costs such as office space, stipends for a few local staff in Liberia, softwares, consultants, and office supplies. YesLiberia has decided not to pay board members or the executive director of the organization for any reason– they have to be 100% volunteers.
