Conviction created YesLiberia. Daily the needs of underprivileged are ignored. We ignore their struggles because it’s easier to focus on other things in our lives— like climbing the corporate ladder and saving money so we don’t become indigent, or making sure we have a gym membership. And some of us ignore their challenges because they bring back unpleasant memories we seek to repress. But disregarding the plight of the underprivileged yields no resolution. Then certain things happen to remind us their struggles exist no matter how hard we try to pretend our needs surpass theirs.
I was convicted by several of their challenges. The prostitution of children in Thailand reminded me of Liberia. The rape and war in The Congo reminded me of Liberia. The genocide in Rwanda reminded me of Liberia. I remembered my underprivileged past—a past where I was seen as less than elite based on my tribal and economic status and where my education came as a gift from the United Methodist Church. Reminded, I became convicted to act and YesLiberia was founded to educate and help underprivileged Liberians whose plight I intimately understood. Over the years we’ve been blessed with amazing people like you because of the grace of God. YESLiberia serves the next generation of Liberian leaders by paying their tuition and fees, fostering service learning opportunities, delivering leadership trainings, and encouraging volunteerism. At YESLiberia, we believe empowerment starts with you.
We are committed to helping students with academic potential who cannot afford their education. For donors seeking a Liberian-led NGO that is trustworthy, effective, and fiscally responsible, YesLiberia is your ideal option. We look forward to working with you.
